FLANAGAN'S WAKE

In honor of Downstairs Cabaret Theatre’s (DCT) 25th Anniversary year, we will bring back some of our more popular productions through the years, in addition to adventuresome new offerings.  The first revival scheduled is the hilarious audience-interactive comedy FLANAGAN'S WAKE, the longest running show in Chicago theatre history, running an unprecedented 13 years !  Downstairs Cabaret staged the show originally in 1997 to enthusiastic audience response.  FLANAGAN'S WAKE transports the audience to the fictional town of Grapplin, Ireland, where they meet an eclectic cast of characters including Flanagan's spirited fiancée of 22 years, Fiona Finn;  his best friend and drinkin' mate, Brian Ballybunion;  the sharp-tongued parish priest, Father Damon Fitzgerald;  the town Mayor and bartender, Mayor O'Doul;  the incoherent Mother Flanagan;  and several other fine citizens.  The mourners pay their respects to the deceased in the Irish tradition (with a quick stop at the pub first !).  FLANAGAN'S WAKE is performed in the irreverent improvisational style that won it rave reviews in Chicago.  Much of the play's hilarious detail is created as the cast and audience interact, each offering anecdotes about Flanagan himself, speculation on the cause of his unfortunate demise, and claims to Flanagan's estate - all employing tall tales and rip-roaring songs.  Spontaneous improvisation guarantees that no two shows will be the same.Look for a possible return engagement !
